I love lists

This one, a list of "Top 50 conservative songs" is quite entertaining, although I have to say, in the best tradition of lists like this, that it makes no sense.

"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," one of the best all-time anti-war songs made the list, I guess because it somehow celebrates the South (really?). And probably the best (and most direct) anti-abortion song ever written, "Papa Don't Preach" by Madonna didn't make the list.

As a Rush fan, I am happy National Review included the libertarian-themed "Trees" and "Red Barchetta" but how can they pick these but not "Anthem" or "Something for Nothing" (especially the latter!)

They also include The Beach Boys "Wouldn't It Be Nice" specifically because, like about fifteen thousand other songs written in the past 50 years, it celebrates love and marriage. Wow. I guess as hard as they looked, the National Review couldn't find any bands rocking out to the Federal Marriage Amendment!

Probably the most ironic selection is "Revolution" by the Beatles, because it was anti-Chairman Mao. If that's how low the bar is to be considered a conservative these days, then well, sign me up!
