He thinks he's papal

There's a lot of hand-wringing by liberal Catholics this afternoon upon the election of a very conservative and doctrinaire pope. I feel really bad for them, because they want to remain faithful to their religion, but the theology of that very religion demands obedience and respect for the Catholic hierachy. I am so thankful that I am Jewish today...this is not meant as an attack upon Catholicism or any other faith, but I really appreciate the tenets of Judaism, which do not include hierarchy or required obedience to any human authority figure. Jews are encouraged to question, and debate, and argue, and most of all, to think. I am proud and thankful there is room for me in the faith I was born into, and I hope that some day my Catholic friends will be able to experience this feeling as well.
