Why most people have no sympathy for unions

(especially public-sector unions which break the law)

Exhibit 1.

From what I understand, New York City transit workers are not exactly in the same league as suffering coal miners from 100 years ago going up against Pinkerton thugs. Transit workers have a very generous pension system, large salaries with built-in rasies every year (how many private-sector folks can claim that?) and a top-notch health care plan.

I feel sorry for all the people who live in New York right now.
