An opposable "thumbs up" for Mr. Darwin

He wasn't a prophet. He wasn't a god. He wasn't a political leader. He was simply a scientist who came up with a theory that after 150 years still represents the best scenario we have for how life developed and continues to develop on Earth. Evolution is a wonderful theory, with complexity wrapped in a sublime shell of elegance and simplicity. There really is an "ah ha" moment when you figure out what it means, especially for a non-scientist layperson like myself.

The blog "Thoughts From Kansas" has a nice tribute to Mr. Darwin on this 198th anniversary of his birth.

KU is celebrating Darwin's birthday by hosting a screening of the film "Flock of Dodos" which is a documentary about the battle between creationist (i.e. "intelligent" design) beliefs and the science of evolution. I have heard good things about this movie and am greatly looking forward to finally being able to see it tonight.
