So what does it mean?

Here is a good, concise overview of the many legal rights of marriage that are denied to same-sex couples. Often time, if people give it any thought at all, just think "marriage" means (legally) health care or maybe joint taxes. On the other extreme, many activists have heard that same-sex couples are denied some 1000+ civil rights attached to marriage, but have no idea what they are.

Anyway, this post lists out, in a quick-to-read format, the top few dozen of the "special rights" married couples enjoy under the law. Well worth reviewing, even if you already favor same-sex marriage or think you know what these rights are.

I should note that even though Dave and I are married in the eyes of our friends, families, and God, the fact that the State denies us equal treatment under the law is something that materially hurts us -- and millions of other American citizens -- every day of our lives.
